About
Description Many therapists don’t just hear their clients’ trauma—they feel it. Chronic tension, fatigue, pain, emotional heaviness, or shutdown can be signs of somatic countertransference, a commonly overlooked contributor to burnout. This 2-hour training helps mental health providers recognize how client distress is held in the body, differentiate empathy from embodiment overload, and build sustainable somatic boundaries. Through case studies, neuroscience-informed frameworks, and practical body-based strategies, clinicians will learn how to protect their nervous systems while staying deeply present in clinical work. Total Length: 2 hours (2 CEUs) Learning Objectives By the end of this training, participants will be able to: 1. Define somatic countertransference and distinguish it from emotional countertransference and compassion fatigue 2. Identify early somatic warning signs of burnout in clinical practice 3. Apply evidence-based somatic regulation strategies before, during, and after sessions 4. Utilize case formulation to reduce somatic absorption while maintaining clinical attunement 5. Develop a personalized somatic sustainability plan for long-term clinical practice
