About
Course Description: This course explores the topic of providing psychotherapy during a divisive political climate. Participants will consider the clinical impacts politics can have on an appropriate clinical rapport, while learning how to remain neutral in an appropriate and respectful manner. Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to identify ways in which political climates, policies, and sociocultural issues can directly affect clients’ emotional well-being, identity, safety, and access to resources. Participants will be able to define the boundaries of therapeutic neutrality and self-disclosure as they relate to political topics. Participants will be able to apply clinical judgment to determine when political content is becoming a distraction, avoidance mechanism, or risk to the therapeutic frame.
